When the Morse family made its
way to Vermont in the early 1900s, they found a region
filled with plentiful stands of timber. Clinton Griffith,
the great-grandfather of Brad and Scott Morse who
own Morse
Hardwoods and Millwork Co., made his living working
in the local sawmill, as many Vermonters once did.
Clinton Griffith is pictured in front of the sawmill
in the old-time photograph at the top of this website.
Origin of Morse Hardwoods
Many decades later, Brad and his cousin Scott returned
to the wood industry in its most basic formcutting
survey stakes. As their business grew, they expanded
their services. In 1983 they formed Morse
Hardwoods and Millwork Co., offering local and
hard-to-find species of hardwood
and lumber.
A short time later, when a large
national company was closing its mill in Fairfax,
Vermont, Brad and Scott saw an opportunity to expand
their products and services and keep local people
employed. They purchased the mill and have been milling
high-quality stock and custom hardwood products ever
since.
Legacy of high quality
As fifth-generation Vermonters, Brad and Scott Morse
take tremendous pride in the exceptional wood products
and customer service that make up the core of their
business. The legacy that Clinton Griffith began when
he first worked in a Vermont sawmill lives on today
with the high quality products and service of Morse
Hardwoods and Millwork Co.
